People often ask what a travel advisor does all day. The honest answer is that no two days are the same, but they do share a rhythm. Here is what a typical day looks like from my home office.

Mornings begin with messages and updates. I go through client messages and supplier emails first, because flights get retimed, hotel rates change and payment dates come up, and checking them early means nothing slips past. I check messages during business hours on weekdays and reply within 24 hours, which keeps my days focused so that every client gets my full attention when I am working on their trip. Unless there is an emergency. Those always come first.

Then comes the part I love most, the research. A client has asked for a week in Mauritius or a trip to Phuket, so I compare flights, look at which resort suits them best and work out what the whole trip will cost. It rarely takes one search. Flights, rooms, transfers and dates all have to fit together, and a lot of the work is checking that they do.

Once the right options are in place, I write them up as a quote that is easy to read. It shows what is included, what it costs and what happens next. I would rather spend an extra hour on a quote that is clear than leave a client with questions.

Much of the job happens where nobody sees it. There are bookings and payments to follow up, travel documents and final information to prepare for clients who are about to travel, invoices to send and records to keep in order. And because travel keeps changing, there is always something new to learn, whether it is a hotel that has just reopened, a new cruise ship or a destination I have not covered before.

I also spend part of my week on social media and writing posts about places I love. It is a way for people to get to know me before they ever send a message, and I enjoy it more than I expected to.

Then I switch off. Weekends are my time to recharge, so that I can give my best during the week. A rested advisor gives better advice.

If you have a trip in mind, send me a message through the contact page. It might be the first thing I look at tomorrow morning.
